Struck under Ptolemy VI Philometor, this Ptolemaic didrachm reflects the dynasty's strong emphasis on continuity and royal legitimacy. The obverse features the diademed head of Ptolemy I, the founding ruler, reinforcing dynastic identity long after his reign. On the reverse, the inscription "ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ" is paired with an eagle standing on a thunderbolt - one of the most powerful symbols of Ptolemaic authority - along with a date mark below indicating the year of issue. The type was a widely recognized silver denomination used across Egypt for both everyday exchange and state payments.
