Antiochos VIII Tetradrachm

This tetradrachm was minted in Ake-Ptolemais around 120 BC during the reign of Antiochos VIII Grypos. Today, the ancient city is known as Acre (Akko), a historic port city on the eastern Mediterranean coast. At that time, the Seleukid Empire was losing power because of internal conflicts and wars. The coin was made in an important coastal city that connected the Greek world with the Near East. It survived more than 2000 years and still shows the face of a king who lived in the final period of the Seleukid dynasty.
